Vineyards of the Rhone Valley:

The vineyards of the Rhone valley stretch across 6 departments: Rhône, Loire, Ardeche and Gard on the right bank of the river, Drome and Vaucluse, on the left bank .. This is the second wine appellation in France. There are different varieties such as Syrah or Grenache red, Grenache Blanc, Viognier and Clairette white.

The Rhone Valley covers about 200,000 acres of southern France. The annual production averaged 465 million bottles from 6 000 vineyards. Only 2 000 of these operations are independent wineries while others are grouped into cooperatives.
Wine production is as follows: 60.5% of whites, 31% of red, 8.5% of rosé.
